We have a meeting once each month where we often have speakers whose expertise relates to the issues we are addressing. The Moraga Chamber of Commerce would like to invite you to join us, your membership would greatly enhance our organization.

Javier Goldon was honored as the small business person of the year from Moraga at the Contra Costa Small Business Award luncheon in May.

Javier has owned the UPS store for the past three years. Even with the long hours Javier spends in his store, he has found many ways to support the Moraga community. His business is thriving because of his hard work and his friendly personality. He loves the Moraga community, and he is grateful for the support he has gotten from everyone who lives here.

Moraga Summer outdoor concerts are held every Thursday evening at Moraga Commons Park, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Bring your picnic blanket or lawn chairs to the grassy hillside in front of the band shell. Enjoy the music while your children enjoy the park. For the 2009 concert schedule go to: www.moragaparks.org/concert.html

Moraga Farmer’s Market: Every Sunday at the corner of Moraga Rd and Moraga Way. Freshly caught wild fish, organic fruits and vegetables, eggs, grass fed beef, French baguettes and pastries and more.

Hiking Trails: Moraga is nestled amidst some spectacular ridgelines, and there are many terrific hiking trails. Try the moderate six-mile Rocky Ridge – King Canyon Loop, which starts at the Valle Vista Staging Area on Canyon Rd. This is part of the web of trails maintained by the East Bay Municipal Utility District, and a Trail Use Permit is required. The permit is only $10 for a year and is available online at www.ebmud.com/services/recreation/.

You can also a get a permit at the Hacienda de Las Flores, the Lafayette Reservoir and Watershed Headquarters in Orinda. The Mulholland Ridge is another not-to-be missed hike that will reward you with stunning panoramic views. Pick up the trail at the top of Donald Drive. Birders will want to keep an eye out for white-tailed kites, red-tailed hawks and American kestrels. The Lafayette Reservoir Rim Trail Loop is a rather strenuous hike itself but features easy access trails to the Reservoir Recreation Area for fishing, pedal-boating and other fun activities. Click here for trail maps.

Parks: Take the kids to play at the Moraga Commons, Rancho Laguna or the Hacienda de Las Flores. The Commons has a new and improved water play area for little ones, and Rancho Laguna boasts the trailhead to one of the most beautiful EBMUD trails in the region. The gate at the back of the park is your magic portal (a use permit is required for this trail as well).

The Moraga Pear Festival will be held in late September with music, crafts, inflatables, pies and a petting zoo.
